“No one wants to die,” said Apple’s chief executive, Steven P. Jobs. “And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it.”

Steven P. Jobs in September 2003, before he had surgery to remove a tumor on his pancreas, and in June of this year, right. Recently rumors surfaced that Mr. Jobs was sick again.

It was a little over three years ago that Mr. Jobs spoke those existential words, in a commencement address at Stanford. His thoughts about death came during a portion of his speech in which he publicly discussed — for the one and only time, so far as I can tell — his brush with pancreatic cancer. iPhone is turning Japanese

Steve Jobs’s world map/dartboard has another feather protruding from it this morning. I’m happy to announce that if you had “Japan” in the office iPhone country pool then you’re a winner: please collect your complementary kewpie doll. Blast, I knew I shouldn’t have picked New Caledonia—I thought it would be the dark horse!

SoftBank Mobile has announced that they have made a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Japan—you guessed it—”later this year.” There’s nothing more to it than that, unless you consider that Japan has probably the largest 3G wireless saturation in the world, having been the first country to sport a commercial 3G network.
