Globe iPhone 3G Users: Have you seen your bill!?!?!
I got an iPhone 3G last September 2 and I was surprised to get my bill last week that I am being charged 4,178.24 Pesos on Local Data Charges! To
think, that is already less the 2800 mins I have on the plan. According to my bill I used a total of 12,155 minutes of browsing time which is like
202.58 HOURS or about 8.5 WHOLE DAYS! Isn't that crazy??? Plus I got it only as a secondary phone while I'm waiting for my other
line's contract to expire!
Does anybody have the same problem? I'm just worried since my "unbilled charges" is already amounting to 8K, (my first statement was
only from September 2-15,2008)
I don't check emails, I don't use Youtube, Stocks, Maps or Weather. I rarely surf the web, and usually I only spend 5-10 minutes on it.
When I access the App Store to download games I use my wifi since the 3G signal sucks anyway so what gives!?!
Any suggestions??

Oh my goodness! That's insane! Must be some billing glitch. I will contest that with Globe if I were you.

make sure on your setting that you dont have fetch email on
go to settings>general>network>cellular data network and append "internet.globe.com.ph" either add a character or remove one.
this is the APN or access point name which your phone uses to connect to the internet. when this is changed, your phone can no longer connect to the
internet via globe. (hence no charges) add or remove that character again to enable surfing or email
incidentally APN for smart is "internet" this menu can only be seen on the new firmware 2.1 on legit iphones. if your phone is not legit,
it is automatically there

i agree with chizbol, good thing i am a 2G iPhone user so i just changed the apn to "1234567890" (after i got my 3G iPhone) or much
simpler... just delete or add a letter in the default apn as suggested by chizbol pero naninigurado lang ako kaya 123... nalang ginamit ko. A friend
of mine was charged P3,000+ for the data services she didn't use. Globe should warn their customers after they activate/sell the iPhones.
Somebody from Globe called me up one week after i got my iPhone for some sort of a survey or just a feedback and i told them about the possible
charges a customer might unknowingly incur because of their failure to warn customers.
I hate to think but i can't help but suspect that globe knows but they just wanna wait for complaints, "laman tiyan din yun kung
nakalusot!" hehe pero its a wake up call for us, these telcos are robbing us in a subtle way to the tune of billions of pesos
Smart also robbed me of my Smart Money load after several complaints wala pa din ginagawa, kaya goodbye smart after Christmas day, matapos lang ang 2
years contract ko sa kanila
Sun........ suncell doesnt shine much where there is globe and smart in my place kaya ayusin sana muna nila bago sila mag advertise ng service na
non-existent.
haaay buhay talaga oo, palpak na basic services basta kumita lang sila ok lang

Most of their "charges" come from internet use using EDGE networks. I think blocking out the EDGE network use will probably reduce this
"phantom" charges.

sir chizbol, Do you mean to say that it's not enough to turn off 3G on the iphone? Even if it's off, can we still be charged for data
charges?
I like the push/fetch functionality and I assumed it would be free as long as i only accessed the internet through a wi-fi router. So i i turned off
the enable 3G from the settings menu.
Are you saying that kahit off ang 3G, the iphone will still be able to connect to the internet via globe (though slower)? And that I can be charged
exorbitant internet fees? Sana mali lang intindi ko.

@ 298drew sorry for intruding
yes you are right, you are still online using EDGE/GPRS so you will still be charged even if you turned off the 3G option. just add/or delete a
character e.g "internet.com.ph123" or internet.com.p" for globe postpaid and "http.com.ph123" or
"http.com.p" for globe prepaid
and.......
if you are using smart "internet123" or "interne" so you wont be charged, do it asap para matigil na charges mo

Correct, switching to 3G only makes your DATA connection slow(edge/gprs) 3G is a function of data speed not connectivity

I've also changed the APN setting on my 3G iphone to avoid auto switching to edge or 3g. Is there any other setting i need to tweak in order to
ENSURE that i don't get connected to 3g or EDGE while browsing the Internet?

Hi. I hope Globe will correct the billing.
Thanks for the tip on turning off the Edge connection. Globe should fix that, subscribers must know when he is using the internet; no hidden
connections to avoid bills like this- assuming it's not a glitch.
Also, how do you check how much you've used already for talk, text, mobile internet and WIZ?
By the way if you get the iPhone 3G Plan including the G-Plan you're locked to Globe for 2 years but will you have an option to upgrade or
trade-in your Globe iPhone to the 3rd generation next year assuming the 3rd generation iPhone comes next year?
If they do offer an upgrade/trade-in while you're still locked to them, how much does Globe usually charge (is it by percentage of something?)
for the upgrade or trade-in? Thanks in advance

That's so bad!
This is the very reason why I'm having second thoughts in getting iPhone from Globe, all those hidden charges.

Turning off WiFi doesn't help. You have to manually edit the APN so when you accidentally open any internet-dependent application, you
don't get billed by Globe for that access (for time-based billing).

if you forget to logout... continuous ang billing.
yan ang downside kapag per minute ang charge against the per kb charging.
